The Eurail Global Pass offers the advantages of the Eurail Global Youthpass unlimited train travel in 20 European Countries), but in 1st Class instead of the 2nd Class covered by the Youthpass. Traveling in 1st Class offers not only a higher standard of comfort with larger train compartments, wider seats. etc., but also generally emptier train sections, so you'll need fewer seat reservations. Most surcharges on "glamour" trains such as the Inter-City, TGV, Rapido, etc. are covered.
