Churchill Museum and Cabinet War Room

In August 1939, the Cabinet War Rooms became operational in a former government storage basement, safe from the ferocious air attacks on London. The thirty rooms of this refuge became the secret nerve centre of Britain's war effort. It was where the most senior figures of the government and its armed forces (including Churchill) worked and slept, making decisions crucial to the survival of the nation.

The Cabinet War Rooms have been kept exactly as they were before the lights were finally extinguished after 6 years of war. Open daily except December 24, 25 and 26. 9:30am - 6.00pm (last admission 5.00 pm). For more information please visit www.iwm.org.uk/cabinet.
